UPDATE: Lesley Bargar Suter Wins James Beard Award

When I first reported on this story, Los Angeles magazine Dining Editor, Lesley Bargar Suter was nominated for the prestigious James Beard Award for “Food Coverage”. Since that time, Lesley and the Los Angeles magazine team traveled to New York City to the James Beard House where she was presented as this year’s winner for her outstanding feature food and dining writing.

Tune in to Bikini Lifestyles radio on AM 790 KABC this Saturday night (Saturday, May 19) at 7pm as Lesley Bargar Suter joins us for an intense discussion about California’s Foie Gras ban. And, of course, we congratulate Lesley on her first James Beard Award. We are certain will be reading more award-winning stories by Lesley in the future…

Editor In Chief, Mary Melton, announces that Lesley Bargar Suter is included in the 2012 James Beard Foundation Awards nominations in recognition of three particular works for 2011 magazine content.

In the new category of ‘Food Coverage in a General Interest Publication,’ Bargar’s outstanding work overseeing “Chinese Food in L.A.,” “Breakfast in LA,” and the “Food Lovers Guide” was justly recognized. In this category, fellow nominees are writers with New York magazine and the Christian Science Monitor. Winners will be announced in New York on May 4, 2012.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized by the James Beard Foundation. There’s never been a more exciting time to be covering food in Los Angeles, and the nomination is as much an acknowledgment of the city’s vibrant culinary scene as it is a nod to the work of our magazine’s talented team of writers, editors, and designers,” says Suter.

Los Angeles magazine, which celebrated is 50th anniversary last year, was the winner of two 2011 National Magazine Awards, presented by the American Society of Magazine Editors: for Feature Writing and General Excellence. The magazine has previously been lauded for its culinary content as well. Restaurant critic Patric Kuh won the 2011 Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Review Award, an M.F.K. Fisher Distinguished Writing Award in 2008, and a James Beard Foundation Award in 2001. Lesley Bargar Suter was also nominated for a National Magazine Award for the “Lunch in L.A.” last year by ASME.
