Stove Top Tomato Sauce
Susan shares how to make a quick, easy tomato sauce or stewed tomatoes on the stove top. This recipe uses garlic, olive oil, or grapeseed oil, and fresh grape tomatoes.
Other tomatoes can be used such as roma or any type of tomato that is sliced into smaller pieces. Use these stewed tomatoes or tomato sauce on homemade pizzas, in frittatas, as a spread on crostini, in soups, and in other recipes. > See Recipe for FIRE GRILLED PIZZA
Alternatively, tomatoes can be tossed or drizzled with a little olive or grapeseed oil and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Roast the tomatoes for about 40 minutes on low heat, about 375*F to 400*F, until tender and very slightly browned on the edges. Roasting the tomatoes will create a depth of flavor to the recipe, however, this simple stove top version is super quick and easy. Saving time is always a good idea as time is the last luxury.
Helpful Recipe Tips:
- Add additional ingredients such as onion and herbs like fresh basil, dried oregano, thyme, rosemary
- Add spices like red pepper flakes, cumin, turmeric, and cardamom
- Grape seed oil has a neutral flavor and cooks well at higher temperatures
- This recipe lightly sautees the garlic so olive oil is fine to use at this heat
- These stewed tomatoes and tomato sauce may be used within a few days of preparation
- If not using right away, freeze stewed tomatoes and tomato sauce for up to 6 months
