THE LATEST ADDITIONS TO THIS SATURDAY’S LA STREET FOOD FEST ‘SUMMER TASTING’ EVENT
The first, the original… LA’s largest and most affordable tasting event is even bigger this year at the Rose Bowl on June 29th
Newly added vendors and talent to this weekend’s epic 100+ lineup include a preview of Top Chef Master Neal Fraser’s upcoming icdc (ice cream, doughnuts and coffee), the debut of The Beignet Truck, Highland Park’s Kitchen Mouse Vegan Cafe and in the Taste of Mexico’s event area, Chef John Sedlar of Rivera, Rodolfo Castellanos of Oaxaca, Mexico’s Origen and Pablo Salas of Mexico City’s Amaranta.
A new addition to the VIP Luxe Lounge, Congenial Spirits, will be sampling spirits including Tapatio Blanco, Tapatio Reposado, Tapatio Anejo, Cedar Ridge Iowa Whiskey, Griff’s Cowboy Whiskey and Charbay R5 Hop Flavored Whiskey.
Guests can imbibe on an array of cocktails at six bars including a handful of “Caroline on Crack” approved with Liquid Nitrogen Frozen Otter Pops (Julian Cox + Josh Goldman / Soigné), a Hemingway Daiquiri (Bar 1886) and the Honey Bear Cocktail (Greenbar Distillery).
On the Main Stage, visitors can enjoy guest performances from Jessica Childress, most recently seen on this season’s The Voice, California indie band Tommy and The High Pilots, and alternative cover band Black Crystal Wolf Kids while dining on the field. There will also be music from DJ Bianca, JACK FM on the concourse and mariachi in the Taste of Mexico area. For the wee ones, there will be face painting and balloon animals.
This year’s event judges include Top Chef Master Neal Fraser, Pulitzer Prize winning LA Times critic Jonathan Gold, author and Iron Chef judge Simon Majumdar, Food & Wine west coast correspondent Jennifer Sommer, Cooking Channel’s Alie Ward & Georgia Hardstark, The Simpsons Writer and Executive Producer Matt Selman and renowned Los Angeles chef Walter Manzke. Awards go to Best in Show, Best Old School Street Food, Best Nouveau Street Food, Best Original Showmanship, The Sweet Tooth, Best of Mex, Judge’s Honorable Mention, People’s Choice Award and People’s Honorable Mention.
With a weekend heat wave upon us we’ve tented parts of the Bowl and beefed up our water and ice stations to make sure everyone is cool and comfy.
