What drew you to golf?

  • My father is an avid golfer. He played both weekend mornings. He also traveled a lot for work. I wanted to spend time with him, so I started taking lessons and playing with him in the afternoons allowing us to spend time together. I quickly got hooked.
  • The golf course remains the place where my father and I are the closest. We relax, talk in-between shots, and share a lot of love there. Jack Nicklaus became my golf idol in the 70s and throughout his career. The 1975 and 1986 Masters remain two of my all-time favorite sporting events along with the 1980 US Open and PGA Championship.  The game became very special to me because of my father and Jack.

How long have you been playing golf?

  • I started taking lessons was I was 12 years old.
  • Like Gary Player likes to put it, I’ll turn 58 years of age in April.

What’s your favorite food?

  • As you probably deduced from my last name, I’m Italian. My favorite foods are Italian. I love spaghetti, eggplant parmesan, and lasagne.
  • I’m also a fan of a really good steak…like we discussed in our conversation. (see link to podcast for cooking tips)

Do you enjoy cooking?

  • I enjoy time in the kitchen with family.
  • I don’t enjoy cooking when it’s just me. If I’m cooking for someone or family and everyone is around talking, enjoying a glass of wine, perhaps Sinatra or Dean Martin is playing in the background while I’m cooking, that’s the best. (I agree completely!)

Key tips for a strong golf game:

  • Be patient. The quickest way to ensure a bad score is to lose focus and your temper. As Payne Stewart once said, “A bad attitude is worse than a bad swing.”
  • As Ben Hogan used to say, “The most important shot in golf is the next one.” Don’t let one bad shot become a series of bad shots. Let that last one go and focus on the next one.
  • Negative self-talk isn’t going to help you hit the next shot better. Golf is notorious for negative self-talk. Spend time celebrating and focusing on the good shots you hit, not lamenting the few bad ones.

“My favorite exercise to stay fit is weight training. I try to work out 3 days a week to stay strong and you’ve inspired me to start a stretching routine.”~ Chris Mascaro

What does a bikini lifestyle mean to you?

  • It means living a healthy lifestyle that will allow you to feel good and look good in a bikini or in my case, not have a dad bod.
  • Exercise, healthy eating, strong spirituality, and a positive outlook and mindset.

Do you wear a bikini? 🙂

  • The short answer is no. I’m not sure men are meant to wear bikinis. Women look great in them.
  • I’m more traditional with my swimwear.

Do you have a favorite golf course?

  • Augusta National is my favorite place on the planet. I’ve never played it, but I’ve walked those sacred grounds every year since 2001 as a patron. There’s nowhere on earth I’d rather be.
  • As a player, I was blessed to play East Lake Golf Club here in Atlanta once. It remains the best golf experience I’ve ever had.
  • A close second is at The McLemore outside of Chattanooga. It’s easily the most scenic course I’ve ever played.

What is the most challenging course you’ve ever played and why?

  • The most challenging course I’ve ever played is The Links Golf Club in Sandestin, Florida. It’s a beautiful course along the Gulf of Mexico. There’s a lot of water and a lot of sand.
  • The course makes you hit shots you’re not used to hitting and if the wind is up…oh boy. It’s a tough course but a beautiful walk.
